About the organisation

Our Activities

The Doctoral Student Union of the University of Pécs (PTE DOK) began its operations on 1 September 2012 as Hungary’s first institutional-level representative organisation for doctoral students. The organisation carries out its activities across the entire University.

The activities of PTE DOK are built on three core pillars: representing the interests of doctoral students, organising academic and scientific activities, and managing various scholarship programmes.

In terms of student representation, PTE DOK represents doctoral students both collectively and individually. This enables us to effectively address matters affecting the entire doctoral student community in Pécs, as well as individual issues concerning our fellow students.

The Doctoral Student Union represents students participating in doctoral programmes in all relevant University committees, including the Senate. Our delegates are also present in the Faculty Councils of the individual faculties and in the Doctoral Councils operating across different academic disciplines. Within these bodies, our primary responsibilities are to consistently represent the interests of doctoral students at University level and to communicate feedback and proposals concerning doctoral education to the University leadership.

Our Events

PTE DOK is strongly committed to supporting the academic and professional development of doctoral students. As part of this commitment, we organise a number of academic events that have become well-established traditions over the years.

One of our most important events is the Interdisciplinary Doctoral Conference, which was held for the 13th time in 2025 and welcomed more than 150 participants. Another key event is the MedPECS Conference, which provides a professional forum for doctoral students conducting research in medicine, health sciences, and pharmaceutical sciences.

In 2026, PTE DOK, in cooperation with the Association of Hungarian PhD and DLA Candidates, organised the 29th Spring Wind Conference, Hungary’s largest conference for doctoral students. Held between 19 and 21 June 2026, the event featured 350 presentations across more than 40 sections.

The Doctoral Student Union of the University of Pécs also manages several scholarship programmes. Thanks to the support structure developed in recent years, the Institutional Professional and Scientific Scholarship, the Scholarship for Outstanding Scientific and Artistic Achievement, and the János László Doctoral Research Scholarship all contribute to recognising and supporting excellence among doctoral students.
